About Erykah

Erykah Kangbeya is a writer, fervent feminist, decolonial thought leader, and activist driven by an itch to create more equitable communities. Her personal and professional careers reflect a deep devotion to advocating for women’s rights as well as an attuned commitment to social justice.

Determined to leverage policy as a tool for social change, she is currently pursuing a Master’s in Public Policy and Public Administration at Concordia University with a concentration in Feminist Critiques of Public Policy. In order to give back to the community where she lives, studies, and creates, she recently volunteered as a co-coordinator of the Body & Soul project with Éduconnexion. There, she contributed to a space where creative re-appropriation fostered narratives of resilience, healing, and artistic transformation for survivors of gender-based violence. As a Research and Advocacy Fellow with DESTA Black Community Network, she is currently conducting qualitative research on employer-facing barriers affecting the hiring and retention of formerly incarcerated and soon-to-be released people, with the aim of advancing their dignified reentry and equitable access to employment in Quebec.

Lover of justice, grounded community member, and avid chess player, Erykah continues to deepen her expertise at the intersection of policy, advocacy, and community engagement.

As the founder and writer behind Gold Ink, she sustains the promise to use writing to trailblaze social change by challenging thinking, expanding awareness, and widening angles of view on a variety of social issues. Because she holds an identity that exists at the intersection of womanhood and Blackness, Erykah is particularly loud about feminism and racial justice. Gold Ink marries both her love for the kind of writing that converses with mind and heart as well as her love for turning upside down the societal phenomena that she deems require further examination. Every step of the way, Gold Ink is a place for learning, for challenge, and for creating the world as it should be.
